The Harriet Tubman Cultural Center, located in Columbia, Maryland, serves as a historic and cultural landmark honoring the legacy of Harriet Tubman High School and the contributions of African Americans in Howard County. Originally opened in 1949 as Howard County’s only all-Black high school, it remained in operation until its closure due to desegregation in 1965. After years of use by the Howard County Public School System, the property was transferred to Howard County in 2015 to preserve its legacy as an educational and cultural center.
Today, the center celebrates the school’s historical impact, educating visitors on the cultural significance of the school and honoring the African American experience in the region.
